Customer Rating: Summary: Ok for some stuff, just wanted a little more Comment: I got the driver about two weeks ago. It's good for that fuzz sound. Stuff like the bass in Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult. I do wish it had a little more variety sound wise. But it is fun to play with the fuzz sound that it provides.
Customer Rating: Summary: Versatile but sounds a little too slick Comment: I bought one of these used recently. I have the Digitech bass chorus from this line and that's pretty cool so I tried the overdrive. I normally use an Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi as a distortion for my bass. That box is really harmonically rich. This one can get a lot of different tones, including some that can mimic the Big Muff fairly well, but it doesn't feel like it reacts the same way. The feedback and reaction I get out of this feels predictable, and a little too slick for my taste.
I do appreciate the blend knob that lets you pull in as much of the natural bass tone as you need to keep your sound solid and punchy. Many pedals including the Big Muff don't have this, and it's a great feature for a bass distortion.
I would use this live, as it's completely reliable and solid as a brick. This thing can take abuse. I'd be less likely to record with this because the sound isn't quite there for me. Like all the current crop of Digitech single-pedals, the mechaism for opening the battry compartment is simple and solid. I got mine used, and at that price it was a great deal.
